Borovetz
is the oldest mountain resort in Bulgaria which often
gathers the world ski elite. It has been a witness of the rise of many Bulgarian
champions.
The resort is 1350 m
above the sea level on the northern slopes of Rila Mountain.
Borovetz is at the foot of peak Moussala (2925 m) -
the highest one on the Balkan Peninsula.
Borovetz is 73 km away from Sofia and 126 km away from Plovdiv. The
town of Samokov is only 10 km away from the resort.
Established at the end of the 19th
century as a park for hunting for the Bulgarian kings, Borovetz has gradually
developed into a modern ski resort. The luxury hotels,
the restaurants which offer game and the various possibilities for entertainments,
together with
the excellent network of ski runs and lifts along the slopes of the Rila
Mountain make Borovetz a winter resort of undisputed fame.
Borovetz provides excellent fascilities for practising all the
winter sports
- from Alpine sports to cross-country skiing, ski jumping and biathlon.
The resort has twice hosted World Cup Alpine skiing rounds. The conditions for biathlon
are one of the best in the world.
The air in Borovetz is crystal-clear. The average temperature during
January, the coldest month, is minus 4.6°Ñ.
CONDITIONS FOR SKIING
Ski runs and lifts
The ski runs
are suitable for everybody, no matter whether a beginner or a professional
skier. The slopes and runs are maintained in perfect condition. They are
marked with international markings and multilingual signs.
Ski schools
Borovetz ski school which has
international prestige and long-standing traditions has more than 200
ski instructors, all of them fluent in different languages. Many of them are
former professional skiers.

Ski School for Expert Skiing and its 10 highly-qualified ski instructors
are ready to offer their services to those who want to improve their skiing
skills up to a world champion level.
Ski equipment
Borovetz has ten ski rental
services, situated next to the lift station. They offer
ski equipment of world-famous companies as well
as toboggans, sledges, etc.
Emergency rescue service is provided around-the-clock.
Care for children
Children between
2 and 4 years can attend the Rila Hotel kindergarten (working hours:
9 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.). Elder children - from 4 to 7 years
- can be enrolled in the skiing kindergarten, located in the neighbourhood
of the Rila Hotel (working hours: 9 a.m. - 4.30 p.m.).
AFTER THE SKI
Bowling, swimming, sauna,
fitness center, billiards, table tennis, a trip
with a horse cart, a sky view from a helicopter and other entertainments are at your disposal.
The Bulgarian folklore evenings
are an exclusive attraction you must not miss. You can enjoy old
rhythms and dances while tasting native Bulgarian cuisine and world-famous
Bulgarian wines.
Another option
is to visit a Bulgarian family and taste the local specialties in a different
atmosphere.
